“I am in now in my fourth year of the BSN program after a victorious five years of post secondary education at the Aurora College.  With my continued dedication, I managed to finish that chapter with success despites giving birth at the beginning of the school term to a not only one child, but two additions to my family; nonetheless was given the recognition of becoming one of Aurora College’s Student Community Role Model.  The challenges that I dealt with in the span of the three years was lack of sleep with a new born child, demands of a rigorous school schedule and family balance were tremendous at occasions, but I know that my path is not straight and every great journey has mountains to conquer.  I love every challenge that I face and it demonstration the strength that I will have in my future profession of a northern aboriginal nurse.”

Future Goals and Aspirations:
My goals are to complete the Early Learning and Childcare Program at the Aurora College, once I have completed this program I would like to open a daycare in Lutsel k’e. Currently LK doesn’t have a childcare facility, when I return to Lutselke I will be focusing on setting up a daycare and I want to collaborate with families, leadership and community programs to make sure that everyone is aware of the programs being run and feel welcome to contribute and help to create the best environment for our young children that is culturally relevant and helps to prepare them for school.

Indigenous Juris Doctor / Common Law
University of Victoria

My goal is to become a Lawyer.  I am excited to start my journey as a lawyer because I will finally be able to advocate for Indigenous peoples in the justice systems that may not have the understanding on how the justice system works or how they can exercise their rights when accused.  I am also interested in advocating for peoples that have been affected by environmental injustices that often happen in close proximity to reserves, on reserve land or in areas where the majority of the population is made of marginalized demographics.

Bachelor of Science – Nursing Program (1st year)
New Brunswick Community College

Schooling and helping others have always been an integral part of my life and are two of my biggest passions thus far.  I have completed the Nursing access program and Personal Support Worker program in Yellowknife and am now in my first year of the Licensed Practical Nurse program at NBCC. Throughout the years I have never given up, I have always given school, my workplace, my co-workers, and most importantly my clients, 100%.  I hope to instill in my child that hard work and perseverance will allow you to fulfill your dreams and aspirations, you just have to believe in yourself. My dream of becoming a Nurse gets closer and closer, and the sooner I finish school, the sooner I can come back home to serve the people of my community.

Transition Year Program (1st year)
University of Alberta

My goal is to get into Dental School after completing my Bachelor of Science.  I want to bring it back to my community in hopes to inspire more Indigenous Youth to follow their dreams.  I hope to let them know that we are good enough and smart enough.  We can succeed and get into Post-Secondary no matter what we have been through.  I want to bring my practice to other smaller community in the north.
